CBD Oil For Anxiety

CBD Oil Benefits

CBD has been all the rage lately in the health and wellness community, and a considerable number of brands are including CBD in their product for good reason.

CBD offers many health benefits, including pain relief, and even as an acne treatment. The research is ongoing, but CBD has also been linked to a possible treatment for epilepsy and other neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

One of it’s most prolific uses is for anxiety relief. A large percentage of the population struggles with anxiety, and many claim CBD dramatically helps soothe several uncomfortable anxiety symptoms. Here’s a little more about this up-and-coming wonder compound.

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical that is naturally found in cannabis plants like marijuana and hemp. CBD is not psychoactive, so it doesn’t alter consciousness or produce a ‘high’ when you take it like it’s sister cannabinoid, THC.  CBD derived from hemp is legal in all 50 states, while CBD derived from marijuana is legal in states where all cannabis has been legalized.

How does CBD help anxiety?

CBD is a popular treatment for anxiety because it balances the brain’s serotonin levels, low serotonin being a common cause of depression and anxiety.  It also helps relieve some symptoms of anxiety. It can lower heart rate and help insomnia, and there’s some evidence that it can help with social anxiety and even PTSD. It’s important to note that CBD is not a substitute for prescription medication in patients who have severe anxiety disorders. Under the supervision of a doctor, however, it can often be used in addition to prescription medications to help ease anxiety symptoms.

How much CBD is recommended for use?

Everyone responds differently to CBD, but generally, a 20 mg dose is a good place to start, and then the dosage can be adjusted as needed depending on the reaction. Reaction to CBD may also depend on the concentration of the product.

What time is CBD best used?

When taking CBD for anxiety, one should be mindful of when the anxiety is most intense. For example, if feelings of anxiety are strong in social situations, taking CBD before a big event may be helpful. When using to aid insomnia, taking CBD before bed can also help. Individuals should not take CBD before work or before driving until it’s effects are known for that specific person. While it isn’t a psychoactive chemical, it may cause drowsiness.

What CBD products are available, and where?

There are many different types of CBD products to choose from. In addition to oils, lotions or salves can be applied topically. For oral consumption, there are CBD mints, gummies, or chocolates. There are even juices and teas that contain CBD. Many CBD products are available online, and in areas where all cannabis is legal, they’re available in dispensaries, wellness stores, and cafes.
